The Oversouls have been together about 7 years and place particular emphasis on writing, and recording their own material.  Though not a soul or blues band, their music has a soulful funky edge.

Phil Brown grew up in Kansas City and started playing guitar at age 9. By age 11 he was playing in gigging bands for high school dances and parties. He started playing bars at age 14 and went on to play 6 nights a week for many years in Kansas City and across the midwest as frontman, singer, band leader and doubling on keyboards. Phil released a CD in 1998 called Truth Seeking Missile which got some regional radio airplay and was well-received. He's also recorded and produced CD's for other local artists, including Melanie Zipin and Brandon Perrault.

Mary Brown also grew up in Kansas City playing various instruments throughout her life, including piano, flute and fiddle, finally settling on bass guitar about 7 years ago. She co-writes The Oversouls’ original songs with Phil and sings backup vocals. They currently live in beautiful Silver City, NM.
